The design of the farm tractor helped farmers in the USA to become one of the world's finest agricultural suppliers. Many people were fed because the tractor enabled farmers to farm numerous acres of land.

In 1925 International Harvester had introduced a general purpose tractor named the Farmall. Since this model was smaller, it worked well for plowing, cultivating and cutting. Very similar tractors were definitely now being manufactured by quite a few manufacturers. Three modifications were made to the tractors that enhanced their practical use, the power lift which made it possible for an implement to get raised during field turns, rubber tires which did less destruction of the fields and diesel powered engines that made way for low priced diesel fuel. The peak manufacturing of tractors was in 1951 when 564,000 tractors were made in the United States.
